Dr. Natasha Myhal, an enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, is a Provost’s Fellow. A critical Indigenous studies scholar, she examines colonialism, ecology, and treaties, focusing on more-than-human relatives as resources, threatened species, and ancestors. Her research explores Tribal sovereignty, self-determination, and climate change, emphasizing community-centered knowledge and the ecologies of Tribal restoration programs. The UMD Dept of Athletics Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council and the Indigenous Student Organization are showing The Medicine Game, a film about two brothers from the Onondaga Nation who overcome challenges to pursue their dream of playing lacrosse for Syracuse University. There will be a special speaker, Tomas Howes, who will talk after the film. Howes is a master's graduate from UMD and a Fond Du Lac tribal member. There will be free food.
